About 50 million years ago, the Cappadocia region was an interior. When the volcanoes of the surrounding area pass the activity, this sea is dried up from the high heat in the region. The lava flaring from the volcanoes filled the sea as if it fills a huge whale. During millions of years, rivers eroded soft rocks formed by the cooling of lava and formed deep valleys. The strong winds on the other hand gave the peribacas their present shape. The rock structure and wind angle of each vane in the region are different from each other. For this reason, the formation of the periwinkle in the valleys varies. Devrent Valley is a special valley where many different peribacian formations can be observed. This difference is so special that it is also known as the Imaginary Valley because the shapes of the peribacas are similar to some living things.
