Side Ancient City

Side is a coastal town located 75 km east of the province of Antalya, which is named after the word "pomegranate" in Anatolia. You can find antique remains and hotels, which are the touristic region of Manavgat. Apartments for sale are mainly bought by English and Germans. It was discovered by Greek settlers in the 7th century and has become one of the most important trade centers in the region with the port reason. Most of the remains obtained by excavation in Side belong to the first three centuries BC. In the 4th century the occupation began to weaken the city. Despite the fact that the bishop of eastern Pamphylia was the settlement area in the 5th century, it could not defend itself against the Arab invasions of the 7th century. Earthquakes destroyed the destroyed city in the 10th century. In the 12th century, in the early periods of the Byzantine period, it became a city where the Jewish population was predominant. However, the next occupations broke through the city, and after the population settled in Antalya today, the old island took its name. The remains are the most remarkable remnants of Asia Minor. Pamphylia, the remains of the theater complex, is the largest of these. Built like the Roman amphitheater, Side theater has a seating capacity of 15,000. The theater was used for gladiatorial fights and then turned into two chapels during the Byzantine era. Despite being used by the Eastern Pamphylia bishop, it can still be visited as a Roman Catholic church. Side has been excavated by archaeologists since 1947 and is still developing as a popular tourist center.
