Pamukkale Travertines, located in the Denizli city of our country, is a structure formed by pouring the thermal hot water sources coming from the fault lines formed after the geological events on the rocks. Pamukkale travertines, which are formed entirely by natural means, contain 17 hot water areas which are the source of healing. Not only in our country but also throughout the world, the travertines are heavily influenced by tourists and visitors. In addition, the waters from the travertines enrich the region for health tourism. Patients who want to heal by entering these waters, which are especially good for rheumatism, flock to the region both in Turkey and in the world. Due to the fact that the waters coming from some sources are at the burning temperature of the human body, the health serviceers using these spring waters keep the waters for a long time primarily on a wide area. When it reaches a level that does not burn the human body, it transfers it to the health pool that tourists enter. Pamukkale Travertines is a historical and touristic area in the Büyük Menderes Basin of the Aegean Region. The first formation is based on the Early Age Periods and the name at that time is Hierapolis. That period was seen as a separate province. Today, it is located within the boundaries of the provincial center of Denizli city. The structure used as the castle of the Hierapolis city is today located in an area close to the Ecirli village of the central district of Denizli. How did Pamukkale Travertens form? Traverten is actually a kind of rock. These rocks have undergone chemical reactions for a variety of reasons. As a result of these chemical reactions, a precipitate has formed on the rocks. This is called a rocky traverten. The area where Pamukkale Travertines is located is a thermal region with numerous hot water sources. The temperature of the hot water sources from the seventeen different areas varies from 35 degrees to 100 degrees. These spring waters have been used since ancient times especially in the field of health. The hot waters in the region have reached the top of the travertines after they have exited from the source. The length of the channels carrying the hot waters to those hills is approximately 320 meters. At the top of the travertines there are depressions between about 6 and 70 meters and the hot spring water arriving here is transferred to these depressions. The waters from the hot water source first have a high amount of calcium hydrocarbons. However, since it has entered a reaction with oxygen in the air after it has been released, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide are separated from the water and are confused with air. At this time, calcium carbonate precipitates and traverses the fruit. Although this precipitate is in the form of a gel initially, it becomes harder and harder with time and is named traverten. Pamukkale Travertenleri is the most beautiful place in the world. Unfortunately travertenes have been damaged recently due to inadequate protection of the zone. History The Pamukkale Travertines, which cover an area of approximately 2200 meters long and 160 meters high, have come to the fore with the hardening of calcium carbonate which accumulates in the layers of pools. Due to the clear and bright nature of the enrichment, even the distance of 20 km can be seen with the naked eye. Since the remains of Hierapolis are also in the same region as the travertines, Pamukkale has a rich history. This direction attracts tourists from various parts of the world. There is also the "Cave of Sharon" in the area where Pamukkale Travertines are located. The characteristic of this cave, which makes it world-famous, is the gas that spreads through the cave and has a deadly effect. The tourists who come to the area travel over the rocks that have not yet finished their hardening, causing great damage to the travertines. The calcium carbonate in the gel consistency is crushed and dispersed. Although various measures have been taken to prevent possible damage to the tourists in the area, effective measures have not yet been achieved sufficiently. The hot spring water sent to the top of the travertines is given in a certain program. Because, if you send too much water, there is an algae in the region. This causes environmental pollution. In order to protect the whiteness of the surface of the travertines, the weather conditions, heat, water flow and the duration are important factors.
