Historical and Touristic Places in the Vicinity of Izmir – Chapter 2

The left picture shows the city centre; Basmane Square. The right picture shows the Clock Tower, the sign of Izmir. The lower picture shows the most beautiful region of Izmir; Kordon Line, which is the amusement center. Nightclubs and restaurants are very dense in this part of the city.People who smoke water pippo along the bank, get rid of the day’s tiredness. Special tobacco is put in the mouth of a special bottle and one smokes it with a pipe. it’s hard to smoke and the taste is very popular.
Agora of Izmir: At the left of the broad street, leading from Canakkale to Kadife Castle, the agora of Izmir, a district of the city called with its own me “Agora” is a large area. This marketplace and the basilica are kept up till now wholly. The basilica has two floors and is 160 m. long. The market place is surrounded by columns made from marble stone. The marketplace with shops and storehouses was built in the Hellenistic Age.
PRIENE: In a classical era whose name was known as Latinas full, and its soil was fertile and productive and was lying between great Menderes and small. It stands in the southwest of SOKE. Priene is on the north coast of the Gulf but Miletos stands on the southern shores.
There is a highway coming from SOKE to Priene. If we follow the highway as far as 17 km, we arrive ar GUM Badge (Garden with roses). It is possible to go up here to Priene ruins. This city was founded with the streets interrupting each other vertically according to the plans of architect Hippodonas of Milet in the years of 430 B.C. If we progress from the east door we arrive at the street of theater which is one of the six streets that unite eastern and western parts of the city. There were formerly two temples in the western part of the street of theater. The temple of Demeter and Kore in the North as well as the temple of Athena in the South whose columns were restored in the second century B.C. and they are the constructions of which the foundations were kept well. When we go down from the temple of Athena, the ruins of sacred saloon appear. Here is a town-hall of Bulenterion with 13 rows of sitting. Right near it, there is Prytaneion where employees live. In the South of it down Lyceum and next to it stadium stands. Their art columns raided from the rows of seats. There is the temple of ZEUS in the part of Agora. The Byzantium castle has been built later on this temple.
